Shields had overwhelming stuff tonight. He simply never gave the Superior batters a decent pitch to drive. The SoCal players and coaches started to leave Shields alone with his thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Shields racked up 10 strikeouts. SoCal rapped out 12 hits for the night. Felix Hernandez(0-2) took the loss. He was touched for 11 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. 'Shields was simply incredible' losing pitcher Hernandez said. 'I hate to admit this but I'd pay to watch a man pitch like that'
