Rod Barajas cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at SAFECO Field where the North
Georgia Yellow Jackets beat the Superior Blues by the score of 7 to 3.
 
The Superior fans didn't appreciate the big day Barajas had.  He hit a
bases-empty home run in the 2nd inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 6th
inning.  Superior was out-hit by North Georgia, 12 hits to 3.  
 
Jeff Niemann(4-0) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Brad
Bergesen got the save, his 1st.  Felix Hernandez(1-6) absorbed the loss.  He
pitched 5 innings allowing 8 hits and 1 walk.
 

Jackets Only Need 4 Hits To Beat Blues, 5-4.

The North Georgia Yellow Jackets ended a long winless drought and nipped the
Superior Blues 5 to 4 at SAFECO Field in a hard fought contest.
 
North Georgia scored all of the necessary runs in the 3rd inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 2 hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  After
the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score.  
 
Dustin Moseley(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Sean Burnett earned the save, his 1st.  Tommy Hanson(3-2) ended up with the
loss.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 2 and 2/3
innings.

Javier Vazquez didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Superior Blues
defeated the North Georgia Yellow Jackets 1 to 0 at SAFECO Field.
 
Kameron Loe(2-1) came on to close the door tight in relief.  No one got on
base in his perfect 2 innings dropping his ERA from 5.17 to 4.58.  The
right-handed Vazquez lost his no-hit bid when Derek Jeter singled with two
outs in the 6th inning.  Superior had only 4 hits for the night.  
 
Andrew Bailey got the save, his 6th.  Manny Acosta(0-1) suffered the loss in
relief.  He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
 
Wth the win Superior now has a record of 20-20.  Still in a bad slump, with
this loss, North Georgia is 0-10 lately and 13-16 on the year.

In a tight game it was the Metropolis Avengers 3, the Superior Blues 1 in 11
innings at SAFECO Field.
 
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Metropolis was
victorious in the 11th inning.  After two outs Lucas Duda initiated the
scoring spurt when he doubled.  Matt Wieters next to the plate and he cleared
the fences for a two-run home run.  Both teams finished the game with 9 hits.
 
The victory went to Chris Resop(1-2) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Aroldis Chapman recorded the save, his 3rd.  Andrew Bailey(0-2) was tagged
with the loss in relief.

In a game for the baseball purist, C.C. Sabathia(6-1) and Ervin Santana(2-5)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Metropolis Avengers finally emerged
victorious over Superior Blues, 3 to 1.
 
Metropolis scored 2 runs in the decisive top of the 4th inning when they came
up with 4 base hits.  The highlight belonged to Robinson Cano who deflated
the crowd as he stroked a single bringing home two baserunners.  Metropolis
had 10 hits overall, while Superior had 5.  
 
Neftali Feliz got the save, his 5th.

Left fielder Alex Gordon lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Metropolis
Avengers defeated the Superior Blues by a score of 4 to 2 at SAFECO
Field.
 
Metropolis came up with 2 runs in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base hits.
That was all the runs Kyle Lohse(5-0) needed.  Superior was out-hit by
Metropolis, 10 hits to 7.  
 
Lohse got help from Neftali Feliz who earned his 4th save.  Michael
Pineda(5-3) was the losing pitcher.  'We really needed this win' said Drew
Wiesner.  'That first drink of water at the end of a drought sure does taste
good!'

Adam Jones hit a homerun as the Superior Blues defeated the Metropolis
Avengers by the score of 3 to 2 at SAFECO Field.
 
Superior scored the deciding run in the 8th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Jones hit a bases-empty home run.  Superior had a total of 7 hits
for the game.  
 
The win was credited to Felix Hernandez(1-5) who went 8 and 1/3 innings
allowing 2 runs. Andrew Bailey earned his 5th save.  Chris Resop(0-2) ended
up with the loss in relief.

The Myrtle Beach Mermen edged the Superior Blues at SAFECO Field by the score
of 4 to 3.
 
Nick Blackburn(2-1) gave a fine effort for Myrtle Beach.  He allowed 5 hits
and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.  Superior had a chance in the 9th but they
came up short.  
 
Huston Street earned his 5th save.  Michael Pineda(5-2) was the losing
pitcher.  He gave up just 2 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.  Myrtle Beach now
has a record of 9-22.  With the loss Superior now has a record of 18-17.

Derek Lowe was on top of his game, blanking Superior on just 3 hits as the
Myrtle Beach Mermen topped the Superior Blues by a score of 5 to 0 at SAFECO
Field.
 
Lowe(2-3) was tremendous on the mound for Myrtle Beach.  He surrendered only 3
hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.70 to 2.08.  Myrtle
Beach rapped out 11 hits for the night.  
 
Felix Hernandez(0-5) took the loss.  He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 3
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.  Mark Doerr was very impressed with his pitcher,
Lowe, 'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight.  It was almost unfair -
but a beautiful game to watch from where I sat'

In a one-sided affair the Myrtle Beach Mermen batters pounded the Superior
Blues pitchers for 9 runs while Mike Pelfrey(1-4), with relief help from
Blake Hawksworth, held Superior to 1 run.
 
Pelfrey pitched a fine game.  He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3
innings lowering his ERA to 3.78.  Superior was out-hit by Myrtle Beach, 15
hits to 4.  
 
Tommy Hanson(3-1) was given the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and
3 walks in 6 innings.  'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.  Man alive,
things were getting awfully grim,' noted Mark Doerr.  'Now, we need to string
a bunch of wins together and turn things around!'

The Superior Blues nipped the Boston Tea Party 5 to 4 at SAFECO Field in a
hard fought contest.
 
Boston was unable to recover after Superior went ahead in the 6th inning as
they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Ryan
Roberts who made the Superior fans a happy lot when he lined a one-base hit
bringing home two baserunners.  Superior had just 5 hits for the afternoon.
 
The winning pitcher was Kameron Loe(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Andrew Bailey recorded his 4th save.  Travis Wood(0-5) ended up with the
loss.  
 
Wth the win Superior now has a record of 18-14.  Steve Chandler was pretty
down after the loss.  'We've really been sputtering along lately, something
like 0-10 in the last week or two.  That won't get it done.'

Javier Vazquez racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts and Edgar
Renteria had 3 base hits as the Superior Blues defeated the Boston Tea Party
by a score of 5 to 1 at SAFECO Field.
 
Vazquez(4-0) was in control of the game from the outset.  He didn't give up
much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings reducing his ERA from 2.48 to 2.27.
Overall Superior out-hit Boston 9 to 5.  
 
Rafael Betancourt earned the save, his 5th.  Brett Cecil(0-4) was charged with
the loss.  Vazquez was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of
fun out there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We
got the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!'

Tony Gwynn Jr had 4 hits and Ervin Santana racked up an impressive total of 12

Field.
 
Santana(2-4) was very good in the win.  He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings lowering his ERA from 4.14 to 3.80.  Andrew Bailey was perfect in
relief and got the save, his 3rd.  
 
Jake Peavy(1-5) suffered the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.  Santana was jubilant in the
hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there.  The fans gave me a lot
of support as did my teammates.  We got the victory and I'll sure take 12
strikeouts anytime!'

to 2.54.  Superior rapped out 14 hits for the night.  
 
Chris Volstad(1-6) ended up with the loss.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 7
and 1/3 innings.
