Justin Verlander tossed a complete game and Carlos Santana blasted a homerun
and had 2 RBI as the Santa Barbara Outlaws outscored the Superior Blues 7 to
3.
 
Verlander(2-0) delivered a fine performance for Santa Barbara.  He allowed 7
hits and no walks in 9 innings.  Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th
inning with no runs scored after that point.  
 
Javier Vazquez(1-2) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed Santa Barbara 7 runs
in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.

Daniel Murphy had 2 base hits at SAFECO Field as the Santa Barbara Outlaws
beat the Superior Blues 4 to 1.
 
Superior fell behind quickly as the Santa Barbara offense came through in the
first inning plating one baserunner on 2 base hits.  Superior was set down
quietly in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
The winning pitcher was Jeremy Hellickson(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings.
Hellickson was helped out by Jonathan Papelbon who recorded his 2nd save.
Michael Pineda(0-2) took the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Ian Kennedy took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the California Roadrunners
beat the Superior Blues by a score of 6 to 2.
 
Kennedy(2-0) was in control of the game from the outset.  He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 1 hit and no walks in 7 innings.  The right-handed
Kennedy lost a no-hitter when Cliff Pennington homered with one out in the
6th inning.  Overall California out-hit Superior 9 to 3.  
 
Ervin Santana(0-1) was the loser.  He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

innings.  Superior had a total of 11 hits for the game.

Matt Thornton(1-0) won the game with a masterful relief performance.  He gave
up just 1 hit and no walks in 2 innings.  Mariano Rivera was perfect in
relief and gained credit for his 1st save.  
 
Michael Pineda(0-1) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings
and surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks.

Justin Upton connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Superior Blues
defeated the Simi Valley Vikings by a score of 6 to 4 at SAFECO
Field.
 
Superior scored the winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs utilizing 3
base hits.  After an out was recorded, Upton got things going when he
singled.  Mark Trumbo was next and he slapped a one-base hit.  After another
out, Adam Lind came to bat and clubbed a three-run home run.  Cliff
Pennington was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.  This was a game of
many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5
times in all.  
 
The victory was credited to Mark Lowe(3-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Rafael Betancourt earned the save, his 26th.  The loss was charged to
Anthony Varvaro(0-3) in relief.  He pitched 1 inning and surrendered 3 hits
and no walks.

In a thriller the Hessville Everreadys staged a dramatic comeback then held on
to win over the Superior Blues by a score of 7 to 4 at SAFECO
Field.
 
Hessville won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning as they
scored 4 runs on 3 base hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by Carl
Crawford who silenced the crowd when he doubled bringing in two baserunners.
Hessville totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The winning pitcher was Blake Wood(3-1) who allowed no runs in 3 innings.
Takashi Saito earned the save, his 3rd.  Sergio Romo(4-2) was given the loss
in relief.  
 
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Romo said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done.  Our fans deserve better than this.'

Adam Lind knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Sergio Romo had an impressive
outing at SAFECO Field as the Superior Blues beat the Hessville Everreadys in
15 innings 8 to 7.
 
Both teams were tied at 7 runs apiece after nine innings.  Superior won it in
the 15th inning.  Justin Morneau drew a walk.  Edgar Renteria followed next
and he drew a walk.  Adam Jones then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Cliff
Pennington stepped in and he lashed a single giving Superior the win much to
the delight of the home town crowd.  Superior ended up with 15 hits for the
game while Hessville had 11.  
 
The win was credited to Kameron Loe(7-3) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Jamey Wright(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief.

as the Superior Blues beat the Tinley Redbirds by a score of 5 to
0.
 
Superior promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they tallied 3
runs on 3 hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  Superior
finished with 8 hits while Tinley ended up with 5.  
 
The win went to Santana(13-12) who allowed no runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Santana got help from Andrew Bailey who earned his 10th save.  Brandon
Morrow(9-15) was tagged with the loss.

At SAFECO Field, the Superior fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Felix
Hernandez(6-13) finally bested his Tinley opposite, Mark Buehrle(13-6), by
the score of 1 to 0.
 
Superior scored what proved to be the only run of the contest in the bottom of
the 5th inning.  After an out was recorded, Adam Lind lofted a solo-blast
'downtown'.  Tinley had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.  
 
Hernandez got relief help from Andrew Bailey who gained credit for his 9th
save.  Buehrle was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 8 innings and surrendered
just 5 hits and no walks.
 

Superior Shut Out, 6-0.

The Latrobe Steel nipped the Superior Blues 3 to 2 at SAFECO Field in a hard
fought contest.
 
Latrobe brought 2 runs across the plate in the 5th inning. The key at-bat was
by Carlos Pena who silenced the stadium when he smashed a two-run homer.
Superior had 11 hits in the game while Latrobe had 6, but Latrobe had the
more timely hits.  
 
Rick Porcello(7-5) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. David Robertson
earned his 8th save.  Michael Pineda(9-5) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed
4 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.  
 
The win by Latrobe is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in
recent days.  Their record now stands at 44-44 - only 2-8 in their last ten
games.  With the loss Superior now has a record of 50-48.

Felix Hernandez retired 12 batters on strikeouts at SAFECO Field as the
Superior Blues won a thriller over the Latrobe Steel in, 2 to 1.
 
The deciding run was scored by Superior in the bottom of the 9th.  Justin
Upton lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' making Superior the victor and beginning
a joyous home town celebration.  Latrobe out-hit Superior 7 to 3, but
Superior ended up with more runs.  
 
The victory went to Scott Downs(3-4) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. The loss was charged to Ryan Mattheus(0-1) in relief.  He was unable to
retire a batter and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.
